Grew up with the same year and color IH as our farm truck. I love that body style.

Might be the same truck, they go a long time.

Climate or lack of regulations?

nice grandfather clause for antiques, 30 years or older. If they’ve been registered on record, don’t quote me but reliable records here go back to 76. So if it’s been on the road in the last 40 years it’s plateable (within reason, you can be pulled for a safety). But if it’s that old and is worth driving you’re probably ok. These plates cost $125 a year almost no questions asked. It’s how I can have 5 plated vehicles.

Some of those things probably helped it get this far, being farm country and all. That’s what I love about old crude trucks, even if it’s 99 % all used up, if it runs, goes into gear, and has at least one window crank, you’re good to go on the remaining 1%

look, guy even backed it up the hill for the roll start......

I know, right. I had to get a “grown up/sensible/safe” car for work and family purposes. Have never racked up 30,000 on the clock without gaining some intimate knowledge of how it works. Total lack of personality and adventure. I miss the good old days of “you don’t need a gas gauge honey, if you can smell gas then there’s gas”.

Alberta, Canada is pretty good too. I have an ‘81 firebird that was dragged from a junkyard several years ago. Costs me $80/year for registration and only $65(!) a year for insurance through Hagerty. No inspection required as its an “antique".

EVERY trip is an adventure, theres a feeling of accomplishment getting where you intended to go. the drive itself is almost as much fun as the place you are going. rollercoaster park? meh..

no dipistick for the gas? every trip cost$ at least ten dollars(up front)unless you can remember the last fill up.

you too can be a master of the walkaround inspection.

meet new and exciting people.

In Wisconsin there is no registration inspection. for anything ever. Even if you’ve never registered it in the state before, they don’t even check to make sure you put the right color on the registration.

It’s both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand you can modify a car pertty much how ever you want, but on the other hand, Billie Bob can still register that 89 Taurus that has become see though, and no longer has shock towers.
